Alphabet Inc.’s Waymo unit is looking for a European carmaker to supply a “large number” of self-driving vehicles for its robotic taxi fleet in the region.
The company turned to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV to provide more than 62,000 minivans for the service it is rolling out now in the American market under the Waymo brand. But CEO John Krafcik tells Handelsblatt the company will probably use a different branding approach in Europe, where Waymo is largely unknown.
Krafcik said earlier that the company intends to experiment in Europe with different vehicle types, services and perhaps market strategies.
