Volkswagen AG is launching a global manufacturing training program for young engineers to prepare for the wave of electrified vehicles the company plans to launch in coming years.
The initiative, dubbed the Future Electronic Engineer Program, will train 100 young engineers and skilled workers from VW facilities in Argentina, Brazil, China, Germany, Mexico and the U.S. During the three-year program, participants will support various VW Group brands as they launch new EVs built on the company’s modular MEB platform.
In addition to becoming experts on the MEB platform, the trainees will assist in integrating autonomous vehicle and connectivity technologies. VW says the team will act as “midwives” to oversee the launch of such vehicles as they are introduced at each plant. The carmaker plans to launch 27 EVs across four brands in the next three years.
After completing initial training at VW’s pilot plant in Wolfsburg, the engineers will continue with specialized seminars and work on new vehicle projects. Participants then will be assigned to plants in different countries to work with technical experts and regional mentors.
