Renna most recently worked for Tesla Inc. as the program manager for the company’s Model S and Model X electric vehicles. He succeeds Burkhard Huhnke, who left VW in January and now is vice president of automotive strategy for Synopsys Inc., a Silicon Valley-based developer of chips and services for Internet of Things products.
VW America’s G4 team is responsible for the company’s e-mobility efforts in the region. This includes the e-Golf all-electric vehicle and the company’s new Modular Electrification Toolkit (MEB) platform. Renna will be responsible for content, costs, financial results, timing, quality, launch and risk management throughout a vehicle’s lifecycle.
Prior to joining Tesla in 2013, Renna was a development engineer for Honda Motor Co. in the U.S. He started his career in 2006 as an engineering intern for Porsche Motorsports in California. Renna has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical and materials engineering from the University of California-Irvine.
