Volkswagen AG is developing a production version of the Budd-e concept electric vehicle it unveiled earlier this month at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
One of the models slated to ride on VW’s new Modular Electric Platform (MEB) will “looks a lot like” the Budd-e crossover vehicle, Volkmar Tanneberger, Volkswagen's head of electronic development, tells Car. He says the production model could be introduced by about 2020.
The Budd-e, which draws styling cues from the VWs iconic Microbus, features a host of advanced connectivity, control and display systems. It’s powered by a pair of electric motors—one at each axle—and a 101-kWh battery pack that fits flat underneath the floor. VW estimates the vehicle would have a real-world driving range of 370 miles, based on the European driving cycle.

Honda Re-Imagines and Re-Engineers the Ridgeline
When Honda announced the first-generation Ridgeline in 2005, it opened the press release describing the vehicle: “The Honda Ridgeline re-defines what a truck can be with its true half-ton bed payload capability, an interior similar to a full-size truck and the exterior length of a compact truck.” And all that said, people simply couldn’t get over the way there is a diagonal piece, a sail-shaped buttress, between the cab and the box.
