Volkswagen AG says it will stretch a planned three-day work stoppage at its assembly plant in Emden, Germany, to 12 days because of shrinking demand for the Passat midsize sedans and wagons made there.
The factory, which employs 9,000 workers, will be shuttered between Jan. 25 and Feb. 3 and again from Feb. 16 through Feb. 21. Reuters reports.
VW blames the cutbacks to slumping sales in England, Russia and Turkey. A spokesperson cautions that further suspensions could be announced later this spring.
