Prosecutors in Lower Saxony, Germany, have added Hans Dieter Poetsch, chairman of Volkswagen AG’s supervisory board, to their list of people being investigated in connection with the company's diesel emission cheating, Reuters reports.
The probe, which was announced in June, also is targeting former CEO Martin Winterkorn and VW brand head Herbert Diess. The investigation centers on whether the executives should have disclosed the possible financial impact of the scandal before the company admitted its wrongdoing in mid-September last year.
VW says the carmaker and Poetsch will fully cooperate with the investigation. But it also reiterates that it believes management fulfilled its duties when the cheating was revealed by U.S. regulators.
