Volvo Car Group announced on Monday it is testing a roof-mounted airbag system that envelops the entire exterior of a vehicle in a crash.
The balloon-like device gives pedestrians something to bounce off, shields the vehicle from minor paint scratches and helps keep the car afloat if it plunges into a river or lake.
Volvo has no immediate plans to produce the pillowy system. The company also points out that Monday was April Fool's Day.
