Volvo Car Corp. is testing a pick up and delivery program for customers who have their vehicles serviced at dealerships in California.
Under the program, customers who schedule service or repair work can have their vehicle picked up by a dealer representative and returned when the work is completed. Customers will be supplied in the meantime with a loaner vehicle.
Other carmakers have provided similar services for years. But Volvo aims to differentiate its program with the company’s digital key app, which allows authorized users to enter and start a vehicle without a physical key. As a result, vehicles could be picked up and dropped off to a specified location without the owner being present.
The 2019 XC40 crossover is the first Volvo to offer the so-called phone-as-a-key system. The company aims to rollout the new pick up and delivery service across the U.S. next year.
