China’s Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. and its Volvo Cars affiliate are studying plans to eventually produce their new Lynk & Co brand in Volvo factories in Belgium and South Carolina.

Lynk & Co, which debuted in April at the Shanghai auto show, aims to explore new ways of offering personal transportation. The brand plans to sell cars via the internet, offer subscription options and enable its customers to rent their cars for a fee to others. Lynk targets annual sales of 500,000 units within five years.

Alain Visser, Lynk & Co’s senior vice president, tells Reuters the brand would share Volvo’s assembly plant in Gent, Belgium, and the factory Volvo plans to open next year in Berkeley County, S.C. The Lynk brand is set to debut in Europe in 2019 and the U.S. in 2020.

Lynk & Co’s first model, the $24,000 “01” small crossover vehicle, went into production earlier this year in Taizhou, China. That factory also makes Volvo’s new XC40 small crossover. Assembly of other Lynk models is to begin in Zhangjiakou, China, next year.
