Visteon Corp. has been hired by Guangzhou Automobile Group Co. to help the Chinese carmaker develop self-driving cars.
GAC will use the new DriveCore operating platform Visteon unveiled earlier this month at the CES electronics show in Las Vegas. The software will be ready for production applications in 2020. That’s when GAC expects to introduce so-called Level 3 autonomous vehicles that can drive themselves on highways.
The companies also will explore GAC’s possible use of Visteon’s head-up displays, instrument clusters and other cockpit electronics.
Last week GAC said at the Detroit auto show that it intends to begin selling its GS8 midsize crossover vehicle in the U.S. by the end of 2019. The company says it will begin recruiting dealers at the National Automobile Dealers Assn. annual convention in March.
