U.S. Ends 2012 with 7.8% Unemployment

Employers, who added an upwardly revised 161,000 U.S. jobs in November, hired another 155,000 workers in December, according to the Dept. of Labor.
The American jobless rate, which is based on a different government survey, remained unchanged at 7.8%, the Labor Dept. reports.
The private sector expanded its payrolls by 168,000 jobs last month. Federal and local governments shed 13,000 workers.
In the final three months of 2012, private employers created 542,000 jobs despite growing U.S. fiscal uncertainties compared with 419,000 in the third quarter.
Economists say the lack of significant improvement in employment will encourage the Federal Reserve to continue its bond-buying program to stimulate the economy.
