The U.K. used the United National climate change conference in Paris to announce it will invest £600 million ($908 million) between now and 2020 to help foster a market for electric and other ultra-low-emission vehicles.
The declarations underscore the U.K.’s membership in the four-month-old International Zero Emission Vehicle Alliance. The partnership was created in August by California, the Netherlands and Canada’s Quebec province. The group has since been joined by the U.K. along with Germany, Norway and eight U.S. states.
The group’s mission is to accelerate acceptance of zero-emission vehicles. Members have agreed to attempt to make all new passenger vehicles in their jurisdictions zero-emission vehicles no later than 2050.
The U.K. says its aim is to produce 25% of all EVs sold in Europe by then.
