Uber Technologies Inc. has quickly settled on damages to the survivors of a woman killed in Tempe, Ariz., last week by an Uber test vehicle operating in autonomous mode.

The agreement avoids a landmark legal battle over liability issues involving robotic vehicles. Terms were not disclosed.

Uber and several other companies have suspended tests on public roads of their automated driving systems pending the conclusion of investigations into the crash.
