President Donald Trump says he has made no decision whether to supplement last Friday's 25% tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese imports with levies on an additional $325 billion in goods.
Adding the latter taxes would result in tariffs of 10%-25% on virtually all imports from China. Trump insists the U.S. has a “very good relationship” with China in spite of last week’s collapse in trade talks he described as being 95% complete.
The U.S. says the negotiations toppled when China backtracked on key commitments. China insists it did no such thing. Trump and China President Xi Jinping are expected to attempt to relaunch the talks when they meet during a G-20 economic summit in Japan in late June.
