The 1.2 million-sq.-ft. center, which is expected to open in 2015, will house R&D activities for both companies. The partners also operate a large joint venture assembly plant in Tianjin that makes the RAV4 crossover vehicle and Corolla, Crown, Reiz and Vios cars.
Toyota says the facility will house design and vehicle body development labs for vehicles intended for the Chinese market, including those marketed under the Toyota-FAW venture's new Ranz brand.
