Chinese police have arrested the chairman and two other high-level executives of Kunshan Zhongrong Metal Products Co. following an explosion on Aug. 2 that killed 75 people at the company's wheel-finishing factory in Kunshan.
Also arrested were the company's general manager and an executive in charge of workplace safety, according to state news agency Xinhua.
The blast, which also injured 185 workers, triggered the temporary shutdown of 268 factories that process aluminum, coal, cotton, magnesium, paper, plastic and tobacco.
Xinhua says investigators attribute the Kunshan explosion to metal dust that was ignited by a flame. They previously described working conditions at the factory as unsafe and illegal.
