Tesla Motors Inc. reiterates last summer's pledge to modify its electric cars as necessary to meet China's still-developing charging standards.

Tesla said in August it had partnered with China Unicom Ltd. to install 400 EV charging stations in 120 Chinese cities. The facilities will include 20 equipped with Tesla's direct-current "supercharger" quick-charge systems, which work only with the company's Model S electric sedan.

Work on the remaining 380 charging centers has been hampered by the lack of final standards from China's central government. Analysts point out that consumer worries about how and where to recharge EVs has hurt demand for such vehicles.
