Tesla Motors Inc. says it will begin delivering a special edition of its second mass-produced electric car, the Model X crossover, on Sept. 29.
Prices for the specially configured Signature model will range between $132,000 and $144,000.
The Model X shares its platform with Tesla's Model S sport sedan, which costs between $70,000 and $128,500, and will offer comparable range and performance.
The new car, which Tesla announced three years ago, features roof-hinged "falcon wing" doors for second-row passengers. The well-equipped Signature model will offer an exclusive shade of red and include such features as all-wheel drive, three rows of seating, automatic self-parking, blind-spot warning, an enhanced sound system and automatic pilot capability under certain highway conditions.
The Model X Signature will be fitted with a 90-kWh battery that provides a range of about 240 miles. Two electric motors will deliver a combined 762 hp to the front and rear wheels, according to the company. Tesla says the car has a top speed of 155 mph and can zip from zero to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds.
