Tesla Motors Inc. is relaunching the shortest-range version of its Model S electric sedan, a model can travel a mere 210 miles per charge.

Tesla had replaced its original base Model S, equipped with a 60-kWh battery, with a pricier 70-kWh version that offered more range. But demand for the latter model was tepid. Now the company is going back to the shorter-range option.

Priced at $66,000, the new entry-level Model S is $10,000 cheaper than Tesla’s previous base model. The company is offering an all-wheel-drive version for $71,000. The new pricing aims to lure buyers who are on a budget. A typical Model S, outfitted with options and a stronger battery, sells for around $100,000.

The Wall Street Journal says the new base model will be equipped with a 75-kWh battery, but the car’s range will be capped by software at about 200 miles—equivalent to the performance of a 60-kWh battery. Buyers can opt to update the software later and gain about 40 miles of range by paying Tesla $9,000.
