Suzuki Motor Corp. says it will discontinue sales of its two diesel-powered models in England when current inventory runs out.
Suzuki Motor Corp. says it will discontinue sales of its two diesel-powered models in England when current inventory runs out.
The carmaker described the move as “temporary.” But media reports say a reprieve isn’t likely anytime soon, based on market trends.
Suzuki sold just over 1,000 of the diesel Vitara and SX4 S-Cross models for all of 2017 in Britain. This represents about 3% of Suzuki’s sales in the region. Overall diesel sales in Britain plunged 37% last month from 2017 levels, according to Autocar.
Suzuki says the two diesel models, which are fitted with Fiat-built 1.6-liter mills, meet Euro 6 emission standards. The company plans to continue to sell them in Ireland, where demand for oil burners remains relatively strong.
