Subaru Corp. estimates its recall in Japan to check improperly inspected cars will cost 20 billion yen ($177 million).
The campaign will cover about 395,000 vehicles produced in 2014-2017 whose government-mandated final safety inspections were performed by uncertified workers. The inspections are not required for exported vehicles.
The Nikkei says Subaru plans tol pay owners a 50,000-yen ($443) incentive to combine the recall inspection with a regular vehicle checkup.
