Stuttgart is the latest European city to announce plans to reduce air pollution by imposing a partial ban on diesel-powered vehicles.
Next year the municipality will forbid the 90% of diesels on German roads that don’t meet current Euro 6 emission limits from entering the city center on high-pollution days. Stuttgart is headquarters for Daimler and Porsche.
The city is among 90 in Germany that often report excess particulate pollution, which has been linked to respiratory and cardiovascular disease. Reuters says the city may grant exceptions for diesel trucks carrying goods.
