Siemens Goes to the Cloud

. . .and offers PLM as software-as-a-service

Siemens Digital Industries Software has launched Teamcenter X software, which is product lifecycle management (PLM) suite that isn’t installed on site, but which is resident in the cloud.

There are a number of benefits to this approach, not the least of which is that companies can be up and running in short order. What’s more, this system is always up-to-date because it is not installed on one’s premises, but is on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud so that Siemens makes updates as they are rolled out. And this is a software-as-a-service approach, so a firm can be assured that they are buying a service that is completely current.

Peter Bilello, president and CEO of CIMdata, said of Teamcenter X, “It leverages a new and modern cloud platform with best practices built-in, and a business model in which Siemens has removed the burden of operating PLM for companies of all sizes.”

For example, there are preconfigured solutions such as Engineering Change and Release Management, which helps facilitate quick execution.

Also, because it integrates with a variety of applications, there is full visibility to a digital twin to the enterprise.

Also on the cloud is Teamcenter Share, a design-centric project collaboration service that allows those involved in product development to view and mark up common CAD files from any device: the files are up-to-date, secure and accessible.
