Rochester, N.H.-based AEC specializes in complex woven composites that are reinforced in multiple directions. The company notes that a composite side impact beam it developed for automotive use delivers similar load-deflection behavior as steel but weighs 30% less.
The companies aim to develop composite body, chassis and other structural components for automotive use. They will jointly look for economical ways to use AEC's advanced composites to lighten conventional metal vehicle crash structures.
