Toyota Motor Corp. and Suzuki Motor Corp. are close to agreement about partnering on technology, including systems used by autonomous vehicles, according to The Nikkei.

The newspaper, which cites no sources, says the partnership also will encompass information technology, parts sharing, product development and purchasing.

The two carmakers indicated in October they would launch talks about collaborating. At the time, Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda told reporters “everything, including the possibility of a capital tie-up” would be discussed. Suzuki, stung by a failed partnership with Volkswagen AG, underscores it intends to maintain its independence.
