The worldwide market for automotive coatings by carmakers will jump to $11.7 billion and nearly 1 billion gallons by 2018 from $8.7 billion and about 763 million gallons this year, according to Dallas-based MarketsandMarkets.

The market research and consulting firm's 341-page report, Automotive Paints Market by Coat Type, projects strong growth in Europe and North America for waterborne and powder coatings to meet current and upcoming environmental regulations. But also anticipates "substantial" growth for such coatings in emerging markets.
