Renault SA plans to partner with two local assembly partners to begin making cars in Pakistan by 2018, Reuters reports.
The French carmakers confirms it is in partnership talks with Pakistan’s Al Futtaim Group and Ghandhara Group to build cars at a Ghandara site in Karachi.
Renault’s interest was sparked by a broad government effort to expand Pakistan’s tiny auto industry. Only 180,000 cars were sold in the country during the last fiscal year, less than 10% the volume in neighboring India, according to Reuters.
