Electric taxis from the Renault-Nissan alliance have failed to excite fleet operators in Belgium, who favor the greater range of the e6 electric from China's BYD Co., Bloomberg News reports.
In a first-round sale of 50 taxis, BYD's e6 sedan captured 34 orders, according to Bloomberg. The car has a range of about 300 km per charge, about twice that of Renault's Zoe and Nissan's Leaf electrics.
The e6 is priced at €48,000. Belgium's regional government estimates the price premium will be offset in four years by the car's cheaper energy costs. Buying an electric also is one of the few ways operators can win a license in the city.
