PSA Group says it is looking for a partner to set up an assembly plant in Indonesia, Malaysia or Thailand to tap the southeast Asian market.
The company hopes to begin construction in 2018, according to CEO Carlos Tavares. He offers no details about who PSA might partner with on the project. The French carmaker already has joint production deals in Malaysia and Vietnam.
Bloomberg News notes that Tavares also has said PSA aims to open a factory in Morocco in 2019, expand in India and Iran and return to the U.S. market within 10 years. The company has just opened an assembly plant in Chengdu, China. The facility, PSA’s seventh in the country, is operated with Dongfeng Motor Group Co., which owns 14% of the French company.
