PSA Peugeot Citroen tells Reuters it will begin an internal study later this month to decide before the end of 2014 whether to close vehicle assembly lines at two factories in France.
Media reports last month indicated the company might eliminate one of two production lines at its Mulhouse factory, which makes the Citroen C4 and DS4 small cars and Peugeot 2008 small crossover.
But a spokesman says PSA also will consider one of the lines at its Poissy facility, which builds the Citroen C3 and CS3 and Peugeot 208 small cars. The cuts are intended to align the company's production capacity with actual demand.
PSA shut down its assembly plant in Aulnay in October and signaled that further reductions were likely. But CEO Philippe Varin has said the company hopes to avoid closing any more factories completely.
