Several hundred workers walked off the job on Wednesday at an assembly plant in Mioveni, Romania, operated by Renault SA's Dacia unit over a pay dispute.

The company began negotiating a new contract with Romanian unions last month. Local news reports say hourly employees sought a 25% pay increase, but Dacia is offering only 5%.

Mioveni is the main production base for Renault's budget brand.
