Porsche Revs Up Second Panamera Hybrid

The plug-in hybrid system teams Porsche’s turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine and 8-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission with an electric motor and 14.1 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The V-8 engine, which also powers the non-hybrid Panamera, alone kicks out 550 hp and 567 lb-ft of torque.
The car can travel about 31 miles in all-electric mode. The battery takes 12 hours to fully charge on a 120-volt 10-amp plug, and about three hours when plugged into a 240-volt, 40-amp source.
The Turbo S E-Hybrid will be sold alongside the current Panamera 4 E-Hybrid. The latter model pairs a twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6 with an electric motor to produce 462 hp and 515 lb-ft of torque.
Porsche will publicly unveil the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid at next month’s Geneva auto show and plans to launch sales globally later this year. Pricing in the U.S. will start at $185,500 for the base car and $196,900 for the extended wheelbase model.
Standard features include all-wheel drive, an air suspension, carbon-ceramic brakes, torque vectoring, 21-inch wheels and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The car also gets an auxiliary air-conditioning system that allows the car to be heated or cooled while it’s being charged.
