A new poll says the Trump administration’s plan to freeze fuel economy standards for passenger vehicles at 2020 levels is backed by only three in 10 car shoppers.
Online buying service Autolist.com surveyed more than 1,100 consumers shortly after the White House plan was announced on Aug 2. Results indicate that four respondents out of 10 disagree with the Trump scheme, and three in 10 are undecided. The poll reports no connection between where respondents live and how they feel about emission and efficiency rules.
The White House plan also seeks to strip California of its power under the Clean Air Act of 1970 to set its own standards. Autolist.com says three in 10 of its respondents agree. Half believe California should retain its regulatory rights, and two in 10 have no opinion.
