General Motors Co.'s Opel unit plans to invest about $300 million to broaden testing capabilities in Germany at its product development center in Russelsheim and proving ground in Dudenhofen.
The expansion at Russelsheim, which will include new engine dynamometers and more efficient test cells, is part of a move to give the center global responsibility for next-generation Opel powertrains worldwide. The facility will be linked to sister GM powertrain development centers in Michigan and Italy.
Upgrades for Dudenhofen will add a new soak area, workshop and vehicle dynamometers designed for ultra-low-emission testing.
