Ontario has approved a first round of automated vehicles for testing on its public roads. The Canadian province announced the program last January.
The transportation ministry says it has approved test vehicles backed by BlackBerry’s WNX software development unit, the University of Waterloo and European motorhome manufacturer Erwin Hymer Group. The province did not indicate when or where the vehicles will be tested.
QNX and the University of Waterloo will evaluate autonomous-driving technologies in Lincoln-brand vehicles. Erwin Hymer will use a Mercedes-Benz van for its tests, according to the ministry.
