Nissan Motor Co. plans to roll out a low-priced electric car in China as soon as this summer, The Nikkei says.
The car, which has been jointly developed with Dongfeng Motor Group, will cost about 200,000 yuan ($30,700), according to the newspaper. It notes the retail price is about 30% cheaper than Nissan’s Venucia e30, a variant of the Japanese carmaker’s Leaf electric sedan.
Government incentives will lower the new model’s transaction price to as little as 100,000 yuan ($15,300), according to the report. That would make the new EV approximately comparable in price to a similarly sized gasoline-powered car.
Nissan hopes the new car will help it boost its share of China’s EV market from 2% last year to as much as 10% by about the end of 2020. The Nikkei says.
