Mercedes to Bring C 350 Plug-in Hybrid to U.S.

Daimler AG, which will introduce its Mercedes-Benz C 350 plug-in hybrid in Europe in a few months, plans to debut the car in the American market this autumn.
The conventional C 350 is powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 that makes 272 hp. The 279-hp plug-in powertrain features a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that delivers 211 hp through a 7-speed automatic transmission. A 68-hp electric motor, which is mated to the engine, is powered by a 220-lb, 5.2-kWh lithium-ion battery.
Daimler says the plug-in system for the C 350 can push the car from zero to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds and propel it in electric mode for about 20 miles.
Mercedes has said it intends to roll out 10 plug-in hybrid models by the end of 2017. The company introduced its first plug-in system, a 3.0-liter V-6 and 85-kW electric motor, in its S-Class large sedan last year.
