Mazda Motor Corp. will begin offering Apple Inc.’s CarPlay and Google Inc.’s Android Auto smartphone interfaces this summer on the 2018 Mazda6 midsize sedan.
Mazda and partner Toyota Motor Corp. have been among the last carmakers to offer such capabilities. Toyota is rolling out the technology—which allows users to access various iPhone and Android smartphone features through a vehicle’s built-in displays, controls and audio system—this year on the Avalon, Corolla and RAV4.
In the Mazda6, the system initially will be available only as part of the car’s upscale trim packages. Mazda says it also can retrofit the interface into such vehicles that already have been delivered. Other Mazda cars and crossover vehicles are expected to add the technology soon.
