Local officials confirm Kia Motors Corp. is negotiating to open a car plant worth more than $1.5 billion outside Monterrey, Mexico, Reuters reports.
Local officials confirm Kia Motors Corp. is negotiating to open a car plant worth more than $1.5 billion outside Monterrey, Mexico, Reuters reports.
The secretary for economic development for the state of Nuevo Leon tells the news service the deal may be finalized by mid-August. The facility will have capacity to build about 300,000 cars per year.
Reuters reported most of those details last month, citing unidentified sources.
Kia and parent Hyundai Motor Co. continue to acknowledge only that they are looking for ways to increase production in North America. Kia's car/SUV plant in Georgia, and Hyundai's car factory in Alabama are running at full capacity.
