Kia Motors Corp. will unveil a concept of the long-rumored all-electric version of its Niro crossover vehicle at next week’s CES electronics show in Las Vegas.
A production Niro EV is expected to follow later this year. Kia launched the base hybrid-electric Niro in 2016 and added a plug-in hybrid variant last year. The multiple electrified offerings mimic those of the Hyundai Ioniq hatchback, which shares a platform with the Niro.
Last month Hyundai Motor Co. and its Kia unit announced plans to introduce as many as 38 new EVs, hybrids and fuel cell-powered vehicles by 2025. Kia's only current EV is the Soul MPV.
In addition to an electric powertrain and updated front-end styling, the Niro concept will get new human-machine interfaces and a "motion graphic” lighting system. Kia says both features could be added to upcoming production models.
