Volkswagen Group's sweeping reorganization may eliminate as many as 2,000 jobs at commercial truckmaker MAN SE, union sources tell Reuters.
Management has targeted annual savings at MAN of more than €600 million by 2017. Reuters' sources say the plan would centralize heavy-truck production at MAN's factory in Munich and produce light- and medium-duty trucks at the company's facility in Styria, Austria.
The move would phase out truck production at MAN's factory in Salzgitter, Germany, and turn the facility into a components plant. The head of MAN's works council agrees the unit has too much capacity.
Reuters says the intent is to reduce the workforce through attrition and early retirement programs.
