Jaguar Land Rover Ltd. says it will double the size of its engine facility in Wolverhampton, England, to 660,000 sq ft in coming years to keep pace with growing worldwide demand for Jaguar cars and Range Rover SUVs.
The facility, which was just opened last year, currently builds diesel engines used in a variety of Jaguar and Range Rover models. After the expansion, it also will produce unspecified gasoline engines. It will supply all three of JLR’s current vehicle manufacturing sites.
The £450 million ($680 million) addition will increase total investment at the site to about £1 billion ($1.5 billion), which JLR says makes it the most significant automotive plant built in Britain in more than a decade. The carmaker says it will add hundreds of new jobs at the site, in addition to the 1,400 workers due to work there by the end of next year.
