Japanese carmakers have invested $43 billion in U.S. manufacturing, research and administrative facilities to date, including nearly $2.4 billion in 2014, according to the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Assn.
The lobbying group says its members now employ a record 91,200 people in the U.S., up 10% since 2013. Employment by dealers who sell Japanese-brand vehicles jumped 15% to 366,600 last year, according to JAMA.
