Hurricane Florence appears likely to drift just north of Daimler and Volvo Cars assembly plants in South Carolina tonight, then draw a bead on BMW AG’s huge complex in Spartanburg on Saturday.
The hurricane will degrade to a tropical storm overnight. But the slow-moving gale is expected to cause widespread flooding along its path as it curves northward toward the BMW facility over the weekend.
Last month Daimler opened a factory northwest of Charleston on South Carolina’s coast to build Sprinter commercial vans. That facility shut down on Tuesday ahead of the storm. Volvo Car’s car plant, which began operations in June, is a few miles inland.
