Honda Chief Engineer Chitoshi Yokota tells the Tokyo-based business newspaper that local manufacturing is key to controlling costs that would help the car achieve significant sales volume in the U.S.
Yokota predicts low initial sales of the car, which makes its American debut as a Japanese import early next year. He says purchasing or making the vehicle's motor and battery in the U.S. will be especially important to reducing the overall cost.
