Honda Motor Co. is adding another 69,100 vehicles to earlier recalls of 404,400 cars and SUVs in China to address about gasoline fumes in the passenger compartment.
The Shanghai Daily says the latest campaign targets locally produced UR-V compact crossover vehicles. That model joins the Civic small sedan, CR-V small crossover and flagship Avancier SUV, all of which were recalled earlier this year for the same problem.
The source of the fume in at least many cases is an abnormally high concentration of unburned gasoline fumes accumulating in the engine’s oil pan, according to China’s Defective Product Administration. Honda says the issue can result in strong gasoline fumes within the passenger cabin, illumination of the “check engine” light, or both.
The problem does not affect engine performance and has not caused any reported crashes, according to the carmaker.
