Vehicle vision and mapping experts Mobileye NV and HERE have agreed to partner on crowd-sourced high-definition mapping for self-driving vehicles.

The companies will integrate Netherlands-based HERE’s real-time maps with Mobileye’s Roadbook proximity mapping processor system. Their goal is to provide customers with more accurate vehicle positioning data for autonomous driving systems.

The partners also plan two other types of collaboration. First, Israel-based Mobileye will use HERE’s open location platform to process a vehicle’s sensor data and integrate it with Roadbook. Second, HERE will incorporate raw sensor data from Mobileye systems to enhance and update its own maps.

The companies describe their partnership as a bid to develop a global high-def map that becomes the standard for use by self-driving vehicles.
