Ford Motor Co. canceled the evening shift at its assembly plant in St. Petersburg, Russia, on Thursday after the temperatures in its warehouse reached 32 C (90 F), Bloomberg News reports.
A union official tells the news service that the shift will be canceled today if hot weather continues. Temperatures in the city have topped 30 C (86 F) 10 (18 F) above average for four straight days.
St. Petersburg factories run by Hyundai and Toyota scheduled extra 10-minute breaks for each shift and distributed cold water to workers. Nissan extended plant employees' lunch break. General Motors says work at its facilities is proceeding as usual.
