China's largest SUV maker, Great Wall Motor Co., has begun constructing a vehicle assembly plant in central Russia to begin operations in 2017, Automotive News China reports.
The 3.2-billion yuan ($521 million) assembly plant, which will be China's first such facility in Russia, will have annual capacity to make 150,000 vehicles. Great Wall says a second phase would eventually expand capacity by an undisclosed amount.
Great Wall currently assembles vehicles in Russia from kits prepared in China. Last year the company sold about 20,000 units there, according to ANC.
