GM-Isuzu JV Builds 2 Millionth Duramax Diesel

The venture's current 6.6-liter V-8 diesels are used in Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra heavy-duty pickups, Navistar commercial trucks and some marine and off-road applications. The engines, which are capable of running on B20 bio diesel fuel, produce 445 hp and a whopping 910 lb-ft of torque. The latter figure is a 19% hike over the previous Duramax diesel.
Earlier this month GM announced its upcoming medium-duty Chevy commercial truck will be powered by an unspecified Duramax engine and Allison transmission. The carmaker is partnering with Navistar International Corp. on the trucks.
The first Duramax engine rolled off the line in 2000. GM owns 60% of the venture, and Isuzu holds the remaining 40% stake. The partners have invested more than $140 million in the facility in recent years.
